Twin Earthquakes Kill 32 in Venezuela

At least 32 people have been killed and more than 700 injured after two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela in quick succession.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez said the country is facing the threat of a major humanitarian disaster. Speaking to Al Jazeera, she said numerous buildings had collapsed in the city of La Guaira and described the situation as a real tragedy.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) warned that the death toll from the twin earthquakes could rise significantly, estimating that fatalities may range between 10,000 and 100,000 as rescue operations continue.
