Bangladesh and China have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the management of various rivers in Bangladesh, including the Teesta.
The consensus was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying at the State Guest House in Beijing on Thursday (June 25).

During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman sought China's support for Bangladesh's ongoing river dredging programmes aimed at tackling flood risks, protecting the environment, and ensuring the proper management of water resources. He also expressed hope for Chinese technical assistance in implementing the Teesta Management Project.
In response, the Chinese water resources minister gave a positive assurance and pledged full cooperation with the Bangladesh government's initiatives in water resource management.
