Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to be reopened, urging the resumption of normal oil shipments through the vital waterway.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Erdogan said both Turkey and Iran support keeping oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz operational. The waterway has become a key issue amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington.
A significant portion of the world’s energy supplies passes through the Strait of Hormuz. Any disruption to oil shipments could therefore have a major impact on global fuel supplies and energy prices.
Erdogan also expressed deep concern over Israel’s continued attacks in Lebanon. He warned that such attacks could further intensify tensions across the Middle East.
