Trump Warns of Severe Economic Consequences for Countries Supporting Iran
Last updated: 8/20/2026 10:24:00 AM

US President Donald Trump has warned that any country providing assistance to Iran or doing business with Tehran could face severe economic consequences.

In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday (August 19), Trump said he was launching the toughest economic measures yet against Iran. However, he did not provide details or identify any specific country.

The latest warning signals a possible escalation of Washington’s economic pressure on Tehran. In April, the United States launched “Operation Economic Fury” targeting foreign banks and companies conducting business with Iran.

Trump said Iran’s failure to reach an agreement with the United States had prompted him to begin what he described as an economic “D-Day” against the country.

He warned that any nation providing Iran with assistance through financial institutions, businesses, airports or government agencies would face severe economic consequences.

Trump also called for an immediate halt to oil smuggling, money transfers, currency exchange operations, vessel registrations and the use of shell companies linked to Iran.
