At least 11 civilians were injured in a Houthi attack in Najran, a southern region of Saudi Arabia near the Yemen border, the Saudi military said on Friday. The attack has sparked fear among residents in the border areas, with many people reportedly moving to safer locations.

According to reports by Reuters and AP, Saudi military spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki said that those injured in Thursday’s attack included seven Saudi citizens, one Yemeni national, two Egyptians, and one Pakistani expatriate. A four-year-old child was also among the injured.

Saudi authorities said the casualties occurred following a series of attacks launched from Yemen. Hours earlier, the Iran-backed Houthi group claimed responsibility for another attack in central and eastern Yemen, where local officials said at least 30 soldiers from Yemen’s government forces were killed and around 50 others were injured.

A Houthi leader claimed that the attacks targeted bases belonging to Saudi-backed forces and said that “hundreds” of people were killed or wounded. However, the group has not commented on or claimed responsibility for the injuries to civilians in Saudi Arabia.

Officials from Yemen’s internationally recognized government said military camps belonging to government forces in Marib and Hadramout provinces came under attack. They shared the information on condition of anonymity due to security concerns.

The latest attack comes amid rising regional tensions in the Middle East, raising fresh concerns over security along the Saudi-Yemeni border.
