DHAKA, Aug 2, 2026 — Bangladesh has officially launched the National Action Plan (NAP) 2026–2030 aimed at implementing the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), reaffirming its commitment to protecting migrant workers and promoting safe migration.

The plan was unveiled on Sunday at a ceremony in Dhaka organized jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, with technical support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The event also featured a debriefing on the outcomes of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) 2026, highlighting Bangladesh’s contributions to the global migration agenda. The National Action Plan received Cabinet approval on May 21, 2026.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury attended the event as chief guest, while State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam chaired the programme. State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Nurul Haque, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, and IOM Deputy Director General for Operations Ugochi Daniels were among the special guests.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and Expatriates’ Welfare Secretary Md. Mokhtar Ahmed presented key features of the action plan and shared Bangladesh’s experiences from the IMRF 2026.

Speakers stressed the importance of continued cooperation among government agencies, international partners, civil society, the private sector, and migrant communities to ensure the successful implementation of the plan. They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring migration remains safe, orderly, and regular while maximizing its contribution to national development and safeguarding the rights and dignity of Bangladeshi migrants.

The event also highlighted Bangladesh’s renewed commitments toward implementing the GCM. It featured the official unveiling of the National Action Plan, remarks from civil society representatives, a documentary showcasing Bangladesh’s migration journey, and a thematic exhibition on the country’s achievements and challenges in migration governance.
