American businesses have expressed interest in investing in Bangladesh, and a delegation of U.S. investors is expected to visit the country next week, according to Sergio Gor, the United States Special Envoy for South and Central Asia.
Speaking after a meeting with Prime Minister Tarek Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday (August 1), Gor described the discussions as highly productive.
He said the visiting investors will explore opportunities in several promising sectors and assess potential areas for investment in Bangladesh.
The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States, as well as expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
In a post on X following the meeting, Sergio Gor said he had discussed various opportunities to further enhance economic partnership between the two nations. He added that meaningful and positive outcomes could be achieved through joint initiatives and closer collaboration.
Prior to the meeting, Gor visited the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, where he reviewed the humanitarian situation, ongoing assistance programs, and overall conditions in the camps.
As part of his visit, he also held discussions with government officials, representatives of international organizations, and individuals involved in humanitarian operations.
It is worth noting that the U.S. special envoy arrived in Dhaka on July 30 for a three-day official visit. His trip is being viewed as part of the ongoing diplomatic and economic engagement between Bangladesh and the United States.
