Bangladesh is seeking its fair share of water from all rivers it shares with India, including the Teesta and the Ganges, according to the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday (June 30), Dr. Zahed said the government would make all decisions, including those related to the Teesta Mega Project, by placing the country's national interests above all else.

He said China’s preliminary proposal for the Teesta Mega Project includes river training, dredging and riverbank protection. The government is also planning to construct a new barrage on the Teesta River to address water shortages during the dry season.
Dr. Zahed added that while Bangladesh would take into account the security concerns of other countries, it would not compromise on its own national interests.
