The High Court has ordered that permission from higher authorities is no longer required to arrest accused. The High Court has also suspended an office order of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police that required permission from higher authorities to arrest accused in cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement.
A bench of High Court Justices Fatema Nazib and Sikder Mahmudur Razi issued the order along with a rule on Wednesday (April 23). The High Court has sought to know why the April 9 office order should not be declared as being without legal authority.Seven people, including the Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, DB, CID and SB chiefs, have been asked to respond to this rule.

Ruhul Kuddus Kajal heard the petition in court.On April 9, an office order was issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Headquarters regarding the arrest of the accused in a case filed regarding the anti-discrimination movement. Supreme Court lawyer Md. Jasim Uddin filed the writ petition challenging its validity. The High Court passed this order after the initial hearing of the writ petition.
