The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued a 'red notice' against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, who is absconding from the country on various charges including extrajudicial killings, disappearances, murder, and corruption.
This red notice was issued on April 10. The case of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, along with 11 others who fled the country during the student-public movement on August 5, is under legal review by Interpol.In addition to the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Bangladesh Police, multiple sources at the police headquarters have confirmed the issuance of a red notice against Benazir.
Police headquarters said that a Dhaka court ordered action to be taken to issue a red notice against former IGP Benazir following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Following this, an application was made to Interpol to issue a red notice against Benazir since last February.Interpol issued a red notice against Benazir Ahmed on April 10 as a swift action due to allegations of financial corruption or crimes.Regarding Benazir's whereabouts, the police headquarters said that Benazir is absconding with her family. We are not yet sure in which country she is. However, since a red notice has been issued, we hope that her whereabouts will be known soon and that she will be arrested and brought back to the country.
