The bodies of 11 people have been recovered following a devastating explosion at a paper mill in the city of Longview, Washington, in the United States. Local officials confirmed the information on Saturday (May 30), according to The New York Times.

The explosion occurred on Tuesday morning at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging plant, located along the Columbia River, when a tank containing 600,000 gallons of a chemical substance known as white liquor exploded. The chemical is used in the paper industry to convert wood chips into packaging board used for products such as juice cartons.

Immediately after the explosion, the deaths of two people were confirmed, while nine other workers were reported missing. On Saturday, local authorities confirmed that the death toll had risen to 11.
