The first meeting of the committee formed under the Makkah Joint Defense Pact will be held in Istanbul, bringing together senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.
Foreign and defense ministers as well as military chiefs from the three countries are expected to attend the meeting. They will discuss the international security situation, strengthening defense capabilities and enhancing military coordination.
The meeting is also expected to focus on joint production in the defense industry, research and development, and counterterrorism cooperation. The committee’s secretariat, organizational structure and future action plan will also be discussed.
On August 7, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the joint defense pact in Makkah.
Under the agreement, an attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three.
