Russia’s Foreign Ministry special envoy Andrei Belousov has claimed that US military policymakers are seriously considering the possibility of using nuclear weapons on European battlefields.

Belousov made the remarks in an interview with RT. Russia’s state-run news agency TASS reported the comments on Sunday (August 30).

Belousov said Washington’s initiative to discuss Russia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons is primarily aimed at diverting international attention from US nuclear weapons deployed in Europe, as well as Washington’s nuclear missile programs and plans.

He claimed that the United States’ push to initiate discussions on Russia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons at various multilateral disarmament forums should not be overlooked.

According to Belousov, these weapons do not pose a direct threat to US territory. He argued that this indicates US military strategists are seriously considering the possibility of using nuclear weapons on European battlefields.

The Russian official further said that discussions on Russia’s non-strategic nuclear weapons, dialogue on strategic stability, or efforts to reduce such weapons could increase the possibility of the United States and its allies using nuclear weapons.

He claimed that such developments could further increase the risk of nuclear weapons being used by the United States and its allies in Europe. He also urged European countries to carefully consider the potential risks of how Washington uses their territories.
