The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia has issued a special advisory urging Bangladeshi expatriates to remain cautious and follow local laws while using social media.
In a Facebook post on Saturday (August 29), the mission outlined a series of dos and don’ts for Bangladeshi nationals living and working in Malaysia.
The advisory urged expatriates to respect Malaysian laws, workplace rules, cyber regulations, and local religious, social and cultural values. They were also advised to verify information before sharing photos, videos or posts online and remain alert to phishing, scams, unknown links and suspicious messages.
The High Commission warned against sharing, liking or promoting content linked to terrorism, extremism or banned organisations. Expatriates were also advised not to spread rumours, false information or hate speech, or participate in provocative online campaigns that could violate Malaysian law.
They were further cautioned against taking or publishing photos or videos of workplaces, airports, ports, government facilities or security-related locations.
The advisory also urged Bangladeshis not to share passports, visas, national identity cards, bank details or other personal information online.
Expatriates were warned to stay away from fake job offers, illegal visa schemes, suspicious investments and cryptocurrency scams, and not to support or praise criminal or violent activities online.
