Saudi Arabia has issued red alerts in several regions due to forecasts of heavy thunderstorms, flash floods, hailstorms and strong winds. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) issued the warning on Thursday, August 27. Gulf News reported the development.
The NCM said moderate to heavy thunderstorms are expected in parts of Jazan, Asir, Al Bahah, Makkah and Madinah. The heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, while hailstorms and dust storms are also possible.
A red alert has been issued for Taif, Al Kamil and Adham in the Makkah region due to the risk of heavy rain. An orange alert is in place for Al Ais, Al Mahd and Badr in Madinah.
Meanwhile, yellow alerts have been issued for areas including Rabigh and Jeddah over the possibility of light rain and dust storms.
Despite the severe weather conditions, temperatures are expected to remain extremely high across much of the country. Madinah could record a maximum temperature of 47°C, while Dammam may reach 46°C and Riyadh and Buraidah could see temperatures as high as 45°C.
