Three newborns have died after a fire broke out at a government hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra, India, on Monday (August 24).
According to NDTV, the fire started on the third floor of the district women’s hospital after a ventilator reportedly exploded. At the time, 39 newborns were being treated in the Special Newborn Care Unit.
Three babies died after suffering severe burns and breathing difficulties caused by smoke. Doctors, nurses and other hospital staff quickly entered the ward and evacuated the remaining newborns.
Six other critically ill babies were transferred to a nearby specialized hospital for further treatment.
