Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has stressed the need to strengthen economic and trade relations between Bangladesh and India despite political differences.

Speaking after a courtesy meeting with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the Secretariat on Monday (August 24), Trivedi said ordinary people want jobs, education, healthcare, better roads and electricity, and trade can help deliver these benefits.

He said both countries have a large young population with strong aspirations, and ensuring peace and prosperity for them is a shared responsibility.

Trivedi also emphasized mutual dependence as a foundation for stronger bilateral relations and called for greater joint production in the garment sector.

“Let us move forward with business relations; politics will take its own course,” he said.

He added that Bangladesh and India are two independent and sovereign countries and should work together on the basis of equality.
