Three journalists have been brought before the International Crimes Tribunal in a crimes against humanity case over allegations of making provocative statements through various media outlets during the July mass uprising. Shyamol Dutta, Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa were produced before the tribunal on Monday (August 24).

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 ordered their appearance on August 17 following an application by the prosecution.

The three are currently detained in connection with a case involving alleged crimes against humanity committed during the anti-discrimination movement. Shyamol Dutta is a former general secretary of the National Press Club and editor of Bhorer Kagoj. Mozammel Babu is the founder and former editor-in-chief of Ekattor Television, while Farzana Rupa is a former chief reporter and presenter of the channel.

Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa have also been shown arrested in a separate crimes against humanity case over killings during a Hefazat rally.
