Iran Warns Ships Could Be Detained or Seized for Violating Hormuz Rules

Iran has warned that ships failing to follow its rules while navigating the Strait of Hormuz could face fines, detention or seizure. Vessels assisting ships accused of violating the rules could also face penalties.

The warning was issued on Sunday (August 23) by Iran’s Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz authorities in a statement posted on social media platform X.

Companies involved in transporting goods through the Gulf have been advised to check the latest list of vessels accused of violating the rules before chartering any ship. Vessels involved in ship-to-ship transfers or other forms of assistance to listed ships could also be added to the list.

The warning comes as talks between Iran and the United States over the future of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remain stalled. The development has raised fresh concerns over traffic through the strategic waterway, which is crucial to global oil and gas supplies.
