Pakistan Army Chief to Visit Tehran Amid Rising Tensions

Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, is set to visit Tehran as part of efforts to promote peace and security in the Middle East. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed the visit on Sunday.

Two Pakistani government sources also confirmed to Reuters that Munir will travel to Tehran on Monday. He is expected to meet Iranian leaders to discuss the latest regional conflict and growing tensions between Tehran and Washington.

The talks may include US threats of tougher sanctions against Iran, the recent Pakistan-Turkey-Saudi Arabia agreement and the ongoing crisis involving the Houthis.

Pakistan has been playing a mediating role in efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States. Tehran has warned that it could take military action in response to new US sanctions.

Meanwhile, oil shipments through the strategic Strait of Hormuz have been severely disrupted. Iran has threatened action against unauthorized oil tankers attempting to pass through the waterway.

Munir’s visit comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, making the trip diplomatically significant.
