Five passengers were injured after a passenger’s laptop caught fire on an American Airlines flight in the United States. The incident occurred on Saturday (August 22) while the flight was traveling from Atlanta to Dallas.

The pilot said the crew and flight attendants quickly managed to extinguish the fire after the laptop caught fire. The aircraft later landed safely at Dallas airport.

One injured passenger was taken to a hospital after landing, while the other four were treated for minor injuries and released. A total of 133 people, including the pilots, crew, attendants and passengers, were on board.

American Airlines thanked the pilots and crew for safely bringing the aircraft to its destination despite the fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration said lithium batteries used in laptops can overheat and catch fire under certain circumstances. According to the agency, 58 incidents involving laptops catching fire or exploding during flights have been reported since January 2026.
