Myanmar Must Take Responsibility for Rohingya Crisis: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has described the Rohingya crisis as an internal issue of Myanmar and said the Myanmar government must take effective measures to protect the human rights of the Rohingya.

He made the remarks on Sunday (August 23) at a seminar titled “Rohingya Crisis: Current Reality and Future Course of Action.”

The law minister said Bangladesh has viewed the crisis from a humanitarian perspective and provided shelter to the Rohingya on humanitarian grounds. At the same time, he stressed that protecting Bangladesh’s territorial integrity remains a key priority and that preventing human rights violations in connection with the Rohingya issue is also being given the highest importance.

Asaduzzaman said the Rohingya are not Bangladeshi citizens and do not belong to the indigenous population of Bangladesh. However, he emphasized that they are human beings and their rights must be protected.

He also said the government enjoys public support for its measures regarding the Rohingya crisis. According to the minister, Myanmar must take responsibility for finding a lasting solution and ensure the human rights of its own citizens.
