President Mirza Fakhrul Pays Tribute to Liberation War Martyrs

Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar.

He entered the memorial premises at 10:22am on Saturday (August 22) and placed a wreath in honour of the martyrs. After laying the wreath, he stood in silence for a while to pay respect to those who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War.

A smartly turned-out contingent of the three armed forces presented the president with a guard of honour. Following the tribute, Mirza Fakhrul signed the visitors’ book at the National Martyrs’ Memorial and recorded his feelings.

Tight security measures were taken around the memorial and adjoining areas during the president’s visit.

Earlier, at 7:37pm on Friday, Mirza Fakhrul took oath as the country’s 23rd president at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban. Acting Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal administered the oath, while Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani conducted the ceremony.
