Roberto Carlos’s Wife Denies Rumors of His Conversion to Islam

The wife of Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos has denied reports circulating on social media that the former Real Madrid star has converted to Islam.

Suhaila Tahiri, a Moroccan-born football agent, said the reports were completely false and urged people not to spread unverified information about religious matters.

The rumors began after Turkish politician Ali Şahin claimed in a social media post that Carlos had met Sheikh Jihad Hamada in Brazil and embraced Islam by reciting the Shahada.

Carlos himself also rejected the claim in an interview with Saudi newspaper Okaz. He said he has deep respect for Islam but confirmed that he has not converted to the religion.

Speaking to Moroccan outlet Hesport, Tahiri said her husband had never made any official announcement about converting to Islam. She also denied reports that Carlos had been visited in hospital by Sheikh Jihad or that Quranic verses had been recited to him.

Tahiri said she did not know how such stories emerged but described them as unfortunate and baseless.

She added that respecting a different religion or culture does not mean adopting that faith. According to her, even if Carlos has discussed Islam or the Quran, such conversations should not be interpreted as evidence of religious conversion.
