Four new members are set to join the cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. They will take oath on Friday (August 21) night at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban, with newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir administering the oath.
According to sources in the Cabinet Division, the four new ministers are BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Jatiya Party Chairman Barrister Andaleeb Rahman Partha, Bandarban lawmaker Saching Prue Jerry and Gaibandha-4 MP Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln.
Cabinet Division sources said further reshuffling may take place. Changes are likely in the ministries of civil aviation, agriculture, food, power and energy, local government, and information and broadcasting.
Meanwhile, preparations for the new president’s swearing-in ceremony at Bangabhaban have been completed. More than 1,200 guests have been invited to the event.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to take oath as the country’s 23rd president at 7:30pm. Acting Speaker Kaiser Kamal will administer the oath.
Earlier on Thursday (August 20), Mirza Fakhrul won the presidential election with 255 votes out of 343 valid votes. His rival, Colonel (retd.) Oli Ahmed, received 88 votes.
