Calling on Everyone to Come Forward for Public Welfare: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that even major social problems can be solved if everyone contributes in their own way. He also assured full government support for private-sector initiatives aimed at public welfare.

He made the remarks on Tuesday (August 17) while inaugurating a programme to distribute 20,000 raincoats among tea workers in Sylhet division to protect them from adverse weather.

The prime minister handed over raincoats to 10 tea workers from Sreemangal and Kamalganj at the inauguration ceremony.

Under the initiative of the Ministry of Social Welfare, the raincoats will be distributed among tea workers in tea gardens across Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj. The Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) is providing 10,000 raincoats, while Chevron Bangladesh and Pandughar Group are providing 5,000 each.

Representatives of the private sector said that working for the welfare of workers and disadvantaged communities alongside business activities is part of corporate social responsibility. They also pledged to continue participating in public welfare initiatives in coordination with the government.
