Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered that former Prime Minister and jailed cricketer Imran Khan be taken to hospital for a comprehensive medical check-up. The court also directed authorities to form a medical board and ensure weekly meetings with his family members.
A three-member bench issued the order on Tuesday (August 18) after hearing several petitions. The court said ensuring Imran’s health and safety is a matter of fundamental rights.
The medical board will include Imran Khan’s personal doctor and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan. The court also directed that his medical reports not be disclosed to the media or turned into a political issue.
According to a prison report, Imran is receiving regular medical care. However, doctors have noted fluctuating blood pressure, increased heart rate, headaches and restlessness. Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023.
