India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made major changes to its national organisational structure ahead of upcoming state elections. As part of the reshuffle, Deepak Maske has been appointed convenor of the party’s social media department, replacing longtime IT cell chief Amit Malviya. The NDTV reported the development.

Since coming to power in 2014, the BJP’s IT cell has played a key role in promoting the party’s political messaging and campaigns across social media. However, its performance came under scrutiny during student protests over an alleged exam paper leak at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar earlier this year.

The protests saw strong support from young people on social media, challenging the BJP’s long-standing digital influence. Analysts believe the setback may have contributed to Malviya’s removal, although the BJP has not given a specific reason for the change.

Anil Baluni has been appointed media coordinator, with Ashish Usha Agrawal, Pradeep Bhandari and Siddharth Yadav serving as assistant joint coordinators.

The new organisational structure, announced under BJP president Nitin Nabin, also gives key responsibilities to senior leaders including Vasundhara Raje, Smriti Irani, Ram Madhav, Piyush Goyal and Baijayant Jay Panda.
