Ukraine Proposes New Plan to US to End War with Russia

Ukraine wants to end the long-running war with Russia and has submitted a new proposal to the United States to achieve that goal. Al Jazeera reported the development on Wednesday (August 12).

In a speech on Tuesday night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv had presented its proposals to the US side. However, he did not disclose details of the proposals.

Zelenskyy said the United States could help strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, particularly its air-defense systems. He also called for increased pressure on Russia, saying this could push Moscow to prepare for an end to the war instead of prolonging the conflict.

The Russia-Ukraine war began in 2022, and efforts to reach a peace agreement have remained stalled. Ukraine has repeatedly called for a ceasefire, while Russia has also said it wants the war to end. However, major differences remain between the two sides over territory, security and other key issues.

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy accused Russia of preparing for a new military mobilization around the upcoming parliamentary election. Russian officials, however, have previously denied that another mobilization is necessary.
