Eleven Peruvian nationals have been killed while fighting for Russia in the ongoing war in Ukraine. Another 114 people remain missing, while three others have been captured by Ukrainian forces. Peru’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the information in a statement on Sunday.

The ministry said 31 Peruvian nationals have been brought back to Peru from Russia. Consular officials stationed in Moscow and Warsaw are working to facilitate the return of several others.

The Peruvian government has warned its citizens not to respond to fake job offers seeking to recruit people for the Russia-Ukraine war. Authorities said such offers could expose people to the risk of human trafficking.

Meanwhile, family members of Peruvians who joined the Russian military staged a protest outside the Russian Embassy in Lima. They demanded the return of their missing and injured relatives. Families have claimed that at least 150 Peruvians have been killed, although the figure has not yet been officially confirmed.

The Peruvian government has sought assistance from the International Committee of the Red Cross to help locate the missing nationals.
