At least 17 people were killed in a bomb explosion at a police station in the Swat district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Several others sustained serious injuries.
The incident took place on Sunday evening (August 2). Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, issued a statement expressing his condolences over the tragedy.

According to security officials, the attack is believed to have been a suicide bombing. Authorities suspect that, in addition to the suicide bomber, several accomplices may have been involved. A search operation and investigation are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
A police official in Swat said that officers stopped a man for a security check as he attempted to enter the police station. During the search, the suspect detonated explosives strapped to his body, causing the deadly explosion.
