35 Killed in Drone Strike on Traditional Court in Sudan

At least 35 people were killed in a drone strike on a traditional court in Sudan, according to local rights monitors.

The attack took place in the western Darfur region while a community court was hearing a local dispute. Residents had gathered to take part in the proceedings when the strike occurred.

The rights group Emergency Lawyers said the Sudanese military carried out the drone attack.

Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating conflict since April 2023 between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), and the Sudanese Armed Forces under General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, former allies who turned rivals. The war has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions.

Speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, a witness said four tribal leaders and two RSF commanders were among those killed. The traditional court session, attended by local community leaders, was being held under a tree when the drone struck.
