Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has been released from custody in Dubai after being granted conditional bail by a court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to sources familiar with the matter, a Dubai court approved his bail application on July 27. After completing the required legal formalities, he was released from prison on July 30.

In a brief media statement following his release, Benazir said he had been freed in accordance with the court's order and was in good health. He declined to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings.

Sources said the court imposed several conditions, including the surrender of his passport to judicial authorities and a restriction on leaving the UAE without prior court approval. The conditions will remain in effect while the case is under judicial review.

The court reportedly considered extradition-related documents, case records, and legal arguments submitted by the Bangladesh government before granting conditional bail. However, Dubai authorities have not issued any official statement on the matter.

Benazir was arrested in Dubai in connection with corruption cases filed by Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), including allegations of illicit wealth accumulation and money laundering.

He served as Bangladesh’s Inspector General of Police from April 2020 to September 2022. Prior to that, he held key positions as Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
