A delegation of 45 business leaders representing 25 leading U.S. companies is scheduled to visit Bangladesh by the end of next week, according to Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr. Mahdi Amin. He also said the United States will continue to support Bangladesh’s democratic progress and economic reform efforts.

Dr. Amin made the remarks during a briefing on Saturday (August 1) following a meeting between Prime Minister Tarek Rahman and U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon.

He said the U.S. envoy praised the government's efforts to restore democratic governance and political and economic stability under Prime Minister Tarek Rahman’s leadership. The United States also expressed interest in elevating bilateral relations through stronger economic cooperation.

According to Dr. Amin, the meeting included detailed discussions on bilateral trade, investment, and energy cooperation. The two sides also exchanged views on government initiatives aimed at addressing challenges in the power and gas sectors.

He noted that the government is continuing reforms to create a more investment-friendly environment, accelerate industrialization, and reduce barriers to doing business. Strengthening coordination among government agencies was also highlighted as a priority.

Dr. Amin further said discussions were held on introducing 24-hour operations at the country’s seaports and land ports to facilitate import and export activities. Once implemented, the initiative is expected to reduce cargo handling time, lower business costs, and improve Bangladesh’s competitiveness in international trade.

On the same day, the Prime Minister also held separate meetings with several leading business figures from Bangladesh. The discussions focused on improving the investment climate, increasing industrial production, ensuring energy supply, and expanding exports.

Dr. Amin said the government is working consistently to improve public services, strengthen infrastructure, and accelerate economic activities. He expressed optimism that cooperation from international partners and active participation from the private sector would help achieve these goals more effectively.
