The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela has risen to 1,719, authorities said.
President of Venezuela's National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, confirmed the updated figures on Monday (June 29).
Rodríguez said that at least 22,619 people have been affected by the disaster so far. Among them, 5,034 have been injured. He added that at least 855 buildings were damaged, including 189 that collapsed completely.

Since the powerful earthquake struck last Wednesday, authorities have recorded 609 aftershocks. Although another strong tremor was felt on Monday, officials said there were no reports of significant additional damage.
