At least five people including two suspected attackers were killed in a shooting at a mosque in the US state of California. According to CNN and multiple international media reports the incident took place on Monday afternoon at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

Police said two teenage suspects suddenly entered the mosque and opened fire indiscriminately. Three worshippers including a security guard were killed in the attack.

Authorities later recovered the bodies of the two teenage suspects from a nearby vehicle. Investigators believe the suspects died from self inflicted gunshot wounds. Police also said one of the suspects had taken three firearms from his parents’ home before carrying out the attack.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police are investigating the shooting as a possible hate crime.
