The High Court has scheduled the next hearing of the review against the Appellate Division's ruling on the warrant of precedence of important figures in the state for May 18.
Senior lawyer Barrister Salauddin Dolan heard the review petition of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association in the court. On February 4, 2010, the High Court issued an eight-point ruling declaring the 1986 Warrant of Precedence (Amended) as invalid and void. The state appealed against this ruling in 2011. After hearing the appeal, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court issued its ruling on January 11, 2015.
This judgment slightly revised the eight-point directives given by the High Court and gave three directives. They are: 1) Since the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, constitutional office holders will have priority in conflicting presidencies.
2) District Judges and those of equivalent rank as members of the Judicial Service shall rank 16th with Secretaries to the Government. 3) Additional Secretaries shall rank 17th after the District Judges.
At one stage, the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association filed a review petition against the Appellate Division's verdict. Later, the Deputy Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General joined the review petition. Source: BSS. A/M
