The United Nations fears a major cyberattack around the world, especially in Africa and Europe.A United Nations report on Monday (April 21) raised such concerns. It said that a multi-billion dollar scam syndicate has emerged in Asia. They are organizing cybercrime with great planning.
This gang is active throughout Asia. Now they are trying to spread their network to Africa, Europe, and America. The report says that this cycle is now most active in Southeast Asia. Multiple gangs in China and Southeast Asia are organizing this crime. They are spreading this crime network through cryptocurrency.
Many times they are spreading the web of love. Women are being used. Many people are being destroyed through them.Benedict Hoffman, the executive representative for Southeast Asia of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), said that such crimes have spread like a cancer in the Pacific Islands. The administration raided several times. Many were caught. But then new gangs emerged elsewhere.
The report says that this crime is currently most prevalent in the border areas of Myanmar. Due to the ongoing civil war there, it is not possible for the administration to take special measures. Criminal gangs are taking advantage of that. On the other hand, this type of criminal activity is also gradually spreading in Latin America, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.Hoffman said that in 2023 alone, people lost $37 billion to cybercrime. In America alone, people lost $5.6 billion. The United Nations has said that an international organization needs to be created to fight this cycle.
Beijing recently launched a crackdown in Myanmar, raiding several gang offices. About 7,000 workers from about 50 countries were rescued. They arrive in Myanmar through various means of trafficking and are forced to engage in this criminal activity. Source: Deutsche Welle report. A/M
