Retired Major Akhtaruzzaman has been arrested in a case filed over alleged disorder, obstruction of official duties and assault at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport amid a shortage of luggage trolleys and delays in baggage delivery.
DB Chief Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest on Friday (October 2) evening. Earlier that day, airport security officer Md. Shahriar Alam Sajib filed the case with the Airport Police Station.
According to the complaint, passengers became frustrated after baggage delivery from Medina-bound flight BG-338 was delayed. When the airport’s executive director, Group Captain S. M. Ragib Samad, arrived to control the situation, Akhtaruzzaman allegedly behaved abusively and threatened him with physical assault.
The complaint also alleges that he assaulted a security official who objected to video recording in a restricted area and behaved aggressively toward a representative of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
A case has been filed under several sections of the Penal Code. Authorities are investigating the incident based on CCTV footage and witness statements.
