Russia has called the killing of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an attack “unacceptable.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the remarks in his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday (September 26).
Lavrov also accused European countries of doing “everything” to undermine the prospects of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. He alleged that Western countries are supplying large quantities of weapons to Ukraine and helping Kyiv carry out attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
On the Middle East, Lavrov said the time has come to establish a Palestinian state based on numerous UN resolutions. He also called on the United States to immediately release former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
Lavrov further said Moscow supports China’s initiative to establish an international organization for global cooperation on artificial intelligence.
