Trump Under Pressure on Global Stage as Foreign Policy Faces Setbacks

U.S. President Donald Trump sought to project American influence through a tough speech at the United Nations General Assembly and a high-profile meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, analysts say his recent diplomatic efforts have produced limited progress on several major international challenges.

The war with Iran has emerged as one of the biggest challenges for the Trump administration. The conflict has pushed up oil prices and created economic and political pressure inside the United States. At the same time, Washington faces growing competition with China over artificial intelligence and trade, while disagreements with allies over the Middle East and Ukraine have complicated Trump’s foreign policy agenda.

Trump’s meeting with Xi also produced limited breakthroughs on major issues including AI, trade and Iran. The two sides made progress mainly on extending their existing trade arrangement. China’s dominance in the global supply of critical rare minerals has also complicated Washington’s tariff strategy.

Although Trump issued strong warnings to Iran at the UN, several European and Asian allies have been reluctant to provide direct military support to Washington. Leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva have also criticized the use of force and external pressure in international affairs.

Analysts say countries including Canada, Europe, China, Iran and Russia now appear more willing to challenge Washington’s policies openly. The developments have therefore raised fresh questions about the reach and effectiveness of Trump’s foreign policy.
