U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that Trump has told aides he expects the possibility of renewed bombing of Iran after the November midterm elections.
Under Iran’s proposal, Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear negotiations in exchange for Washington lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports. Iran has also sought sanctions relief and the release of some frozen assets.
Trump also posted a map of the Strait of Hormuz on social media, labeling it “Trump Strait.”
