Iran has proposed a seven-day roadmap to the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between the two countries, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has told a group of journalists.
According to a report by Al Jazeera published on Friday, Araghchi laid out the details of the proposal on Thursday during a conversation with a group of journalists and academics on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
The proposal calls for implementing the terms of the memorandum of understanding reached between Washington and Tehran in June, including halting all hostile activities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping.
Araghchi stressed that Tehran is ready to begin implementing the plan the moment Washington agrees to it.
The conflict, which began in late February, has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor, sending ripple effects through world energy markets. Although the 60-day window set by the June memorandum has long since expired, the two sides have yet to reach a final agreement. Araghchi's new proposal is seen as the latest diplomatic push to break that deadlock.
