Two Israeli soldiers were killed in northern Gaza after a drone operated by Israeli forces exploded. The incident occurred on Thursday (September 24), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Friday.
According to the IDF, the drone crashed inside a military position. The soldiers approached it to inspect the drone when it exploded. The two soldiers were identified as 23-year-old reserve Sergeant Ofek Malam and 24-year-old reserve Sergeant Nadav Keili.
Israeli media outlet Maariv reported that soldiers from the 16th Brigade were operating the drone. It later crashed inside the military position for an unclear reason. The IDF has suspended operations involving similar drones pending the completion of a preliminary investigation.
Meanwhile, a ceasefire is currently in effect in Gaza under a plan announced by US President Donald Trump, although Israel has been accused of repeatedly violating the agreement. According to the report, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 8, 2023.
