The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has lowered its economic growth forecast for Bangladesh to 4% for the current 2026–27 fiscal year, down from its previous forecast of 4.5% issued in July.
The ADB said in an updated Asian Development Outlook report released on Wednesday (September 23) that prolonged banking sector weakness, infrastructure constraints and severe energy shortages are among the key factors behind the slower growth.
Meanwhile, average inflation in Bangladesh could rise to 9% in the current fiscal year, up from 8.7% in the previous fiscal year. The ADB had earlier forecast inflation at 8.8% for the year.
