Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will leave for New York early Monday (September 21) to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). A 35-member delegation will accompany him.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam made the announcement at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (September 20). The prime minister is scheduled to deliver his speech in Bangla at the UNGA on September 24, highlighting Bangladesh’s democratic transition, rule of law and accountability, global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, economic cooperation and reform of the multilateral system.
The delegation includes Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat. Saiful Haque, general secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, and Golam Mohiuddin, secretary general of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, will also accompany the prime minister.
During the visit, Rahman will attend five high-level meetings, including discussions on Bangladesh’s democratic journey, good governance and the Rohingya crisis. Bangladesh will also host two side events. The prime minister is scheduled to leave New York for Bangladesh on the night of September 25.
