At least five people were killed and five others injured when an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane overran a runway and crashed at Miami International Airport in Florida on Sunday (September 6). Three of the injured were in critical condition, authorities said.
The Boeing 767-300, operated by 21 Air as Amazon Prime Air Flight 7598, was landing after departing from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it overran the runway shortly before 2 p.m. local time.
The aircraft crossed a roadway and struck several vehicles before catching fire. Rescue crews found heavy smoke and flames at the scene and carried out operations to free people trapped inside the aircraft and vehicles.
Miami-Dade County officials said five people were killed and five others were hospitalized. Three of the injured were taken to a trauma center in critical condition, while two others were taken to local hospitals.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the crash.
