A total of 227 Indian nationals have joined the Russian armed forces to fight in the war against Ukraine so far. Of them, 51 have been killed, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said.
On Monday (August 31), Misri said that 139 of the 227 Indians had been discharged from the Russian military. New Delhi is continuing discussions with Moscow to secure the release and repatriation of those who are still serving in the war.
Misri made the remarks during a special briefing held ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kyrgyzstan. He said India has held multiple discussions with Russia at various levels regarding the release and repatriation of the Indian nationals.
