Barcelona secured a 5–2 victory over Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Monday (September 1), with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha both scoring twice. Yamal also reached 50 goals for Barcelona, breaking a 91-year-old club record.
At 19 years and 49 days old, Yamal became the youngest player in Spanish professional football history to score 50 goals in official club competitions. The previous Barcelona record was held by former forward Josep Escolà, who reached the milestone at 20 years and 356 days in 1935.
Barcelona fell behind in the 12th minute when Sergio Camello opened the scoring for Rayo. Raphinha equalized in the 19th minute before Yamal put Barcelona ahead two minutes later.
Barcelona extended their lead in the 51st minute through an own goal by Florian Lejeune. Camello scored again in the 59th minute to bring Rayo back into the game, but Raphinha restored Barcelona’s two-goal advantage in the 71st minute. Yamal then scored his second goal in the 86th minute to seal the 5–2 win.
Yamal has also surpassed the likes of Raul Gonzalez and Fernando Torres in reaching 50 goals at a younger age. He has likewise reached the milestone earlier than Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland among players in Europe’s top five leagues.
Lionel Messi reached 50 goals for Barcelona at the age of 21 years and 120 days. Yamal has now achieved the feat at a much younger age.
